Ten Hens Farm

Profile Last Updated: Jan 19, 2021
About Us
We are a family of three running a year-round farm based on sustainable production and business practices. We are located 10 miles outside of Lansing, Michigan, and grow in the field in-season and harvest from our 34 ft X 96 ft hoophouse throughout the year. Besides farming we are also involved with the larger farming community through our other jobs. Dru manages the Michigan Farmers Market Association and is also a student in Horticulture and Community, Agriculture, Recreation and Resource Studies at Michigan State. Adam works with farmers through the Student Organic Farm in the Department of Horticulture at Michigan State and with Michigan Food and Farming Systems. Lydia likes to supervise as much as a baby can. Our farm name, Ten Hens Farm, came from a trade we made not long after moving to our 100+ year old farmhouse in 2007. We helped an area farmer build a hoophouse and in exchange she gave us what we thought were ten hens. We named the farm and began to chase our dreams. As the summer passed we soon ended up with five hens and five roosters. We decided to keep one rooster around while the other four found their way to the stew pot. We are now really 9 hens and a rooster, but it just doesn't quite have the same ring as Ten Hens. We are so happy to have returned to Michigan, where we both haved lived for most of our lives, and look forward to years of good food and farming in a place that means so much to us. We welcome you to contact us to learn more about our farm and how you can purchase our products.
